Explore Geneva With Kids

What comes to your mind when you think of Geneva? World Health Organization? European Headquarters of the UN? World Bank? World Trade Organization? International Committee of the Red Cross? Boring, right?

Exploring the Less-Trodden Routes

Geneva, though, is much more. Its hidden treasures, such as the Fête de l’Escalade, chocolate excursions, watchmaker workshops, the lake, and the breathtaking view of Mont Blanc situated in France, will captivate both you and your child.

A great way to explore the city is with the Choco Pass. Your Choco Pass, which entitles you to a sample plate at the chocolate shops of your choice from the list, is activated as soon as you enter any chocolate shop. The choice will be altered for kids who have Choco Pass Kids and include a unique surprise.

As long as we’re talking about chocolate, we can’t leave out this particular Genevan tradition of smashing a chocolate cauldron! Smashing the chocolate cauldron is the big attraction of the L’Escalade Festival. This usually takes place in Old Town towards the start of December.

It wasn’t until the 1880s that the custom of smashing a chocolate cauldron became a tradition. In the beginning, Genevan chocolatiers created chocolate cauldrons stuffed with delectable miniature marzipan vegetables to commemorate the occasion when common citizens defended their city.

Taking a Walk down Heritage

Once you’ve gotten your fill of chocolate, you can stroll through the old town. Some of the must-see sights include:

  • The St. Pierre Cathedral
  •  La Place du Bourg-de-Four
  •  Maison Tavel
  •  The Old Arsenal

One of the city’s most family-friendly museums is the Natural History Museum. Kids will adore its fascinating ongoing and seasonal exhibitions, as well as a diverse schedule of interactive activities including workshops and storytelling sessions. You can take your children to the History of Science Museum to teach them about how science operates on a daily basis, how it has developed over time, and the people who have influenced that development.

The Initium watchmaking workshop is another thing you may do with your kids. The minimum age requirement for this workshop is ten years old. Its objective is to spread knowledge about the traditional craft of watchmaking, which over time has grown to symbolize an entire nation.

The Blissful Nature

A peaceful evening spent by lake Geneva will undoubtedly be calming and energizing. Simply pack a picnic for your family and enjoy this breathtaking setting. Visit the aviary, or the Geneva Adventure Park in Evaux, or the Bastions Park to breathe some fresh air.
